Germany is a nation and a state in deep decline. People love to talk about decline, and the West, as a civilization, seems uniquely obsessed with its own downfall in a way that other civilizations are not. Perhaps this is due to Christianity’s historical consciousness and apocalyptic doctrine, which perceives history as linear—progressing through stages toward an ultimate end. Whatever the reason, declinist narratives are popular; people love to read and listen to them. But that does not mean that real decline will never come. It will. And in the case of Germany, it already has.
